Body temperature and body ownership
In the current project, we aim to explore the relationship between the sense of body ownership, temperature and thermal discrimination ability. In healthy subjects, the sense of ownership will be altered through multisensory illusions (i.e. mirror-box, rubber hand). Moreover, we will assess whether right brain-damaged patients with different degrees of disturbance in the sense of body ownership (DSO), recruited at the Niguarda Hospital in Milan, suffer from a physical deficit in temperature control and deficit in temperature perception. On these DSO patients, we will also explore the effect of the embodiment of a fake hand on body temperature and the neural correlates of temperature-dependent changes in body (dis)ownership.
